The ethnic tensions in Manipur between the Kuki-Zo tribes and the Meitei community have brought the state's governance under intense scrutiny.
He was the chairman of Kangleipak Communist Party, a banned outfit in Manipur.
The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata police arrested a terror activist allegedly belonging to a banned Manipuri terror outfit from the Esplanade bus stand on Saturday night. A 9 mm pistol, two 7 mm pistols along with some ammunition were recovered from him.
Sources close to STF said that the arrested person was identified as Amon Nelson Singh alias Chingkehi Khuman alias Mahekhomba Metel (28). He was said to be a chairman of a banned terror organisation Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) of Manipur.

Nelson’s arrest came close on the heels of the arrest of another member of the KCP by the Delhi police a few days back. According to STF sources, he was the general secretary of the outfit and was identified as Moirangthem Rana Pratap alias Paikhomba (37).
Nelson was produced in a city court on Sunday and remanded in police custody. Sources said that they would try to know why he had come to Kolkata.
Last year, claimed STF sources, some members of the Kangleipak Communist Party were arrested from the city in connection with a heist at a jewellery shop.
“We will try to elicit information whether Nelson was among the groups that were involved in the jewellery shop robbery,” an officer of the STF informed.
Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) was formed in 1980 but the faction of KCP came into existence since 2000. The party had been engaged in arms struggle to achieve sovereignty from Manipur.
